The Feathers Inn, Hedley on the Hill. NE43 7SW, tel. 01661 843607
The Feathers at Hedley on the Hill is a small country pub serving evening meals and lunches at weekend. On a fine day the views outside stretch over open countryside to both Newcastle and Hexham. The pub is just set back from the road through Hedley and is a genuine country pub of that type that existed years ago. The bar has a large warming fire and there is a fine selection of keg and well kept real ales.
The Sunday lunchtime offered a reasonable selection of fare including roast beef or pork, salads, cold meats and soup. The chalk board menu also tempted diners with a good selection of the most loved puds.
The roast meat dishes were priced at £8.95 and this included all the trimmings. The quality of the meat and vegetables was excellent and there was even additional Yorkshire puddings and gravy if needed.
The two ladies in the party could not resist the sticky toffee pudding at £4.50. Although they felt guilty that they could not resist a sweet after such a filling main course, the pudding was so good that they did not offer any for sharing.
The service was excellent and the atmosphere most inviting. Perhaps more expensive than most pub Sunday lunches, nevertheless The Feathers can be most heartily recommended. Malcolm Elwell ,12/11/2006 20:23:06 |
