Jason ,18/08/2007 11:29:40 | The present pub was built in 1939 on the site of the guest house of Kirklees Priory, run as a hostelry by three nuns from the priory following the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539. The monastary was said to be where Robin Hood died. There was a tombstone located nearby now replaced by a newer equally neglected monument. Dave ,15/02/2006 23:14:57 | This place used to have a lot of character. There were lots of private little wooden booths, open fires and a real rustic olde world charm. Unfortunately it was gutted and refurbished several years ago, and turned from somewhere to start your Friday or Saturday nights into somewhere to sit listening to someone else's screaming kids, elbow deep in ketchup, on a Sunday - if you can find a table.
